Bobby Brower (Inupiaq) will give an artist talk on “Life as an Indigenous Business Owner” on Friday, January 19 at 12 pm on Zoom. The talk is the third event in the Share You Culture / Share Your Research Series, hosted by Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum. In her presentation, Brower will share her incredible career path, from sewing in middle school in Utqiagvik to becoming the founder of her brand Arctic Luxe and showcasing her contemporary parkas in front of an international audience of 14 million viewers during New York Fashion Week.  

Bobby Brower is an Alaska Native (Inupiaq) fashion artist and furrier. She was born and raised in Utqiagvik, the northernmost town in the United States. Her business Arctic Luxe promotes and sells luxurious handmade indigenous clothing and accessories, as well as manufactured, indigenous-designed clothing.  

Brower has shown her work at New York Fashion Week, the Smithsonian National Museum of American Indian Art, the Anchorage Museum, Indigenous Fashion Arts in Toronto, and the Adaka Festival in Whitehorse. She also advocates for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls and the Two Spirit Movement.
